This iconic U.S. Navy white hat dates back to the 1880s, when similarly structured white canvas caps first appeared.
Originally designed to shield sailors from intense sun and heat, its brim could be worn turned up in traditional style or folded down to protect the ears when needed. Over time, it became a staple of naval uniform tradition, as recognizable as the sailors' daily denim.
Issued to enlisted personnel below sergeant rank, the cap’s upturned brim naturally forms a distinct cup-like shape. This characteristic silhouette earned it the nickname "Dixie Cup," after the small disposable paper drinking cup of the same name.
Size:
7 1/2: fit 21.5-22.4"/ 55-57cm
7 3/4: fit 22.4-23.2"/ 57-59cm
