The wartime character of this Type I comes from how much was simplified, not how much was added. The chest pocket lost its flap, the front was reduced to four buttons, and branded hardware gave way to simple laurel buttons — leaving a particularly stripped-back version of the early denim jacket.
Bronson cuts this one fairly roomy and boxy in 14oz raw selvedge denim. There is space through the shoulders and sleeves when new, but keep in mind that the proportions change noticeably after the first wash.
We recommend looking at the one-wash measurements before choosing your size, rather than buying entirely from the unwashed chart. For example, a size 38 moves from 65 cm to 61 cm in body length and from 65 cm to 60.5 cm in sleeve length after one wash according to Bronson’s measurements. If you are already borderline on sleeve or body length, this matters.
