At the end of World War II, US Navy also needed an updated flight jacket to replace the heavy fur jacket, and the AL-1 came into being.

The AL-1 (55J13) is a mid-length jacket with a field jacket-like lapel appearance. The jacket is closed by a zipper and had the button-type front fly provides good warmth. The body is made of flocking wool, the sleeve is made of wool, there are hand pockets on both sides of the chest, and there are wool threaded cuffs to strengthen warmth, there are two large three-dimensional storage bags at the hem. Inside the jacket, there is a pocket on each side, one side is zipped closed, the other side is button closed.

Between 1947 and 1952, the AL-1 has divided into two versions: the earlier version had a zipper cuff and a rounded collar, while the latter had no zipper cuff and a more square-shaped collar, with little overall change. It was mainly used by Navy and Marine corps pilots and was later replaced by the nylon WFS.
