The "Duck Hunter" camouflage pattern originated from an American outdoor apparel designer and was first adopted for military use in 1942. Initially, the U.S. Army issued a one-piece camouflage suit, but it proved ineffective and was only distributed in limited numbers—typically to specialized units such as mechanics or snipers. Its resemblance to German Army camouflage also raised concerns about potential friendly-fire incidents.
In the same year, the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) introduced a two-piece uniform set—a jacket and trousers—made from the same herringbone-print camouflage fabric. Designed for reversible wear, one side features a yellow‑green for spring and summer, while the reverse displays a brown "dead leaf" tone for autumn and winter. While the cut closely follows the USMC Type P‑41 jacket, the reversible construction led to a functional adaptation: instead of symmetrical chest pockets, one was placed on the front and another on the back. -
